Comments:
Our coach Rob ( www.mtnathlete.com , www.militaryathlete.com ) asked for some feedback on his squad PT program. It designed for small groups with limited equipment. I found that when I was in the Ranger Regiment squad pt was seriously lacking some structure and purpose. I think in general the majority of the military needs some guidance on strength and conditioning. Most of their methods, exercises, and training is very dated and doesn't take things like mobility and brute strength into consideration. This was very obvious when working in an urban environment under loads. My training partner at the time and I weren't the best runners but were very strong and powerful which proved much more useful in an urban combat environment.
This week Tod and I will be doing 5 squad pt training sessions. Our athletes will continue to do Atomic Hybrid Training.
The above training session is much harder than it looks on paper. It took us 40 minutes and is very core intensive and great for training mental toughness which is a very important attribute for all soldiers. We finished it up with some sandbag hill sprints, gross.
